Benefits of an Allergy Friendly Diet by Jenni Sumner

Allergy-friendly Cookies and Cakes Offer Wider Benefits Whether or not you have a food allergy, there’s no doubt that you will enjoy the cookies, cakes and sweet breads on offer at Sweet Alexis. While you don’t need an excuse to buy the delicious confectionery available from the bakery here, there are more people who may benefit from allergy-friendly baked goods than you might initially realize. Read on to see whether you or those close to you can gain by switching to the sweet treats available from Sweet Alexis Bakery. If you have multiple allergies Whether you, a family member, friend or co-worker has a food allergy, you will appreciate the food shop and eating out is not easy. While an allergy to a single food is difficult enough, multiple food allergies make it even harder. You might be able to find a product that is dairy-free, but it won’t necessarily be free from the other allergens you are sensitive to. This is where Sweet Alexis cookies, cakes and breads come to the rescue. Although most items include wheat and soy among their ingredients, all produce from Sweet Alexis is free from eggs, dairy, tree and peanuts; gluten-free cakes and cookies are also available for anyone who has celiac disease or is intolerant to gluten. The baked goods from here are additionally free from artificial additives, which can trigger allergies in a minority of people. You or those close to you will no longer need to miss out on sweet treats, as a range of allergies won’t stand in the way of you enjoying good from Sweet Alexis. If you’re breastfeeding an allergic infant Even though breastfeeding for 6 months reduces likelihood of food allergies, some infants have allergies present from birth. While this occurs in only about 3% of exclusively breastfed infants and most often to cow’s milk in your diet, if this applies to your baby, you may need to cut the allergens in question completely out of your diet. Seeing the improvement in your little one makes your dietary restrictions well worthwhile, but you may find that with many commercially baked goods it’s difficult to come by allergy-friendly versions. This needn’t be a worry with products from Sweet Alexis, so if you need to avoid milk, eggs or nuts while breastfeeding your baby, you know where to turn. If you have asthma, it may help Some people with asthma have co-existing food allergies. However, even if this isn’t the case, there is some evidence that excluding dairy may help to improve asthma symptoms among certain people. It’s often suggested that a diet rich in dairy produce increases mucus production and while there isn’t conclusive evidence to prove this, there is a theory that this only occurs in people whose intestines are leaky. This allows larger dairy proteins to pass through into the bloodstream and trigger reactions within the lungs. Although it’s not easy to determine whether this is the case, if you’re struggling with your asthma, a trial dairy-free diet may help. All produce from Sweet Alexis Bakery is free from dairy, so it helps compliance with this diet. If you want to avoid artificial preservatives Although there is a link between diets high in fat, sugar and salt and chronic health problems, artificial food additives may also contribute to the development of a range of medical conditions. For instance, while sweeteners are often seen as a healthier alternative to sugar and used in baked goods to cut their sugar content, artificial sweeteners may not be entirely safe. Although further research is necessary, aspartame is linked to migraines, visual changes, insomnia, depression, seizures and even brain tumors, which suggests this sweetener has an adverse effect on your nervous system. Another group of artificial additives that may have unwanted effects on your brain are artificial colorings. If you are a parent, you may already avoid these where possible, owing to concerns they trigger hyperactivity in kids. While it seems that this is more likely among children with ADHD, avoiding additive laden processed foods can only benefit your kids’ health, working alongside a well-balanced dietary intake for children to keep them in the best possible health. If you follow a vegan diet Although you can usually find plenty of desserts suitable for a vegetarian diet, if you or someone you know follows a vegan diet, it’s more of a challenge. While you can make cakes, cookies and other sweet treats from scratch that avoid animal produce, if time is limited or you’re not confident in the kitchen, this might not be an option. However, as Sweet Alexis doesn’t use dairy produce or eggs in its confectionary, the baked goods on offer are compatible with a vegan diet. Contributed by Jenni Sumner
